Setting up and photographing the Sister Circle Norwich event was an enriching experience that allowed me to merge my passion for event photography with the opportunity to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for the participants. The journey began with an initial consultation with the event organisers, where I emphasised the importance of visual storytelling and capturing the essence of the event. To ensure we were on the same page, I asked the clients to create a mood board. A crucial element making sure everyone had the same imagery in mind prior to the photoshoot.
I encouraged the organisers to gather images, colours, and textures that resonated with their vision for the Sister Circle. This collaborative effort allowed me to understand their aesthetic preferences, the kind of moments they valued, and the overall vibe they wanted to create. The mood board featured earthy tones, natural elements, and images depicting connection and community, which guided my approach to photographing the event.
The event was held at the Ash Tree a yurt within a beautiful and serene location in the heart of Norwich. The yurt, with its rustic charm and natural ambiance, was the perfect setting for the Sister Circle. In preparation for the shoot, I visited the location a few days prior to the event. This visit allowed me to familiarise myself with the space, identify key areas for potential shots, and plan how to best utilise the natural light available.
On the day of the event, my primary goal was to make everyone feel comfortable and at ease. The Sister Circle was about creating a space for women to connect, support each other, and build a sense of community. I knew that capturing authentic moments required the participants to feel relaxed and natural in front of the camera. To achieve this, I took a warm and friendly approach, introducing myself to each attendee and explaining my role in documenting the day. I assured them that my presence was to capture their genuine interactions and the spirit of the event.
Creating a warm, friendly, and calm space was essential. The Ash Tree, with its cozy interior and natural surroundings, provided an ideal backdrop. I incorporated elements from the mood board, such as candles, cushions, and earthy decor, to further align with the organisers’ vision.
As the event unfolded, I moved around discreetly, capturing candid moments of connection and engagement. The women shared stories, participated in activities, and supported each other in a nurturing environment. I focused on capturing the emotions, the laughter, the thoughtful expressions, and the moments of genuine connection. The yurt’s natural light filtering through the canvas walls added a beautiful, soft glow to the photographs, enhancing the sense of warmth and intimacy.
Throughout the day, I remained attentive to the flow of the event, ensuring I was present for key moments while also giving the participants space to interact naturally. I also took the time to capture some posed group shots, ensuring everyone was comfortable and at ease. These posed shots were balanced with the candid ones, providing a comprehensive visual narrative of the event.
In post-production, I carefully selected and edited the images to highlight the warmth, connection, and community spirit of the Sister Circle. The final photographs were a blend of candid moments and thoughtfully composed shots, reflecting the essence of the event and the beauty of the connections formed.
Photographing the Sister Circle Norwich event was a deeply fulfilling experience. It allowed me to combine my technical skills with my passion for creating meaningful imagery, resulting in a collection of photographs that truly captured the heart and soul of the event.
