Sourdough Norwich, Event Photography

Shooting the sourdough bread-making class at The Ashtree was a grounding, sensory-rich experience. Set within the soft embrace of the yurt, the space felt instantly calming—filled with the earthy scent of woodsmoke and flour, and lit by warm, dappled sunlight filtering through the canvas walls. Tara and Johnny held the space beautifully, weaving together their deep knowledge of traditional sourdough techniques with a gentle, welcoming energy. Every shot captured the magic of hands in dough, laughter shared over tea, and the slow rhythm of learning something real and nourishing.

What made this class so special wasn’t just the bread—it was the feeling of community and presence. The yurt created a cocoon-like atmosphere, inviting everyone to drop into stillness and connection. There was no rush, no pressure, just the hum of conversation, the crackle of the fire, and the quiet focus of people returning to something ancient and simple.

This particular class also carried a deeper intention: to create a safe, supportive space for both men and women to explore wellbeing through the meditative act of bread-making. Mental health was gently woven into the experience—not through heavy conversation, but through shared moments of reflection, creative expression, and mindful presence. It was beautiful to witness men opening up in this setting, connecting over something tactile and grounding. This isn’t just a class—it’s a quiet invitation back to self, through community, craft, and the healing simplicity of making bread.
